Bruce Arthur Johnston (born Benjamin Baldwin on June 27, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and member of the Beach Boys. He joined the band for live performances in 1965 as a replacement for co-founder Brian Wilson, who had quit touring to spend more time in the studio. Johnston then became a contributing member in the studio on subsequent albums, first appearing on "California Girls". His compositions for the Beach Boys include "Tears in the Morning", "Deirdre" and "Disney Girls (1957)". He left the Beach Boys in 1972 and attempted to start a solo career, but later rejoined the band in 1979. He and Mike Love are the only band members who continue touring as the Beach Boys.
